Good news for 46,000 JSS interns as the budget chief appears to confirm.

Ndindi Nyoro, the chairman of the National Assembly Budget Committee, has alluded to the PnP requirements for JSS teachers’ confirmation.

The 46,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers have been reassured by Ndindi Nyoro, Chair of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee, that there is funding available to convert them to permanent and pensionable positions. Speaking at the Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary (CS) Wycliffe Oparanya’s farewell party, Nyoro brushed aside concerns that the funds would become unavailable following the failure of the 2024 Finance Bill to become law and urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to make sure that the teachers are verified and given PnP letters.

Only a few days have passed since John Mbadi, his counterpart in the National Treasury, claimed in a local TV interview that there isn’t enough money to back up his claims.

The TSC is required to confirm the teachers right once after the Employment and Labour Relations Court ruled that the two-year internship program is illegal.
