Government provides Sh21.8 billion in capital funds for the third term.

The government has given public basic education institutions Sh21.8 billion in capitation funding.

CS Education The capitation has been allocated for free public education, free day junior school education, and free day secondary education, according to Julius Ogamba.

Free Public Education received Sh1.6 billion from the ministry, Free Day Junior School Education received Sh6.1 billion, and Free Day Secondary Education received Sh14 billion.

According to Ogamba, the monies’ release comes just in time as schools get ready to return on August 26, 2024.

“In readiness for the new school term starting August 26, 2024, the government has released Sh21,879,307,912.48 as capitation for learners in all public basic education institutions,” the secretary of state stated in a statement.

According to him, the smooth restart of school activities in the new term will be facilitated by the release of capitation funds prior to the start of the new school term.

“The Government affirms its commitment to fulfil its duty to learners, in line with Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution that entitles every child to free and compulsory basic education,” he stated.

The CS also instructed principals and heads of schools to make sure that the public resources entrusted to their care are used wisely for the benefit of students.

He advised them to stop enacting any unapproved taxes.

The CS promised to take aggressive action against any confirmed instances of resource theft and unauthorized charges.
