Govt Explain How Parents Can Sign Up Students for SHIF Before the Third Term.

Parents have been instructed by the government, via the Ministry of Education, to make sure that their children are registered under the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) prior to the start of the third term.

The administration will likely be under pressure to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement reached with teachers before the new term begins, given the impending teachers’ strike.

Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for education, declared that in order for pupils to receive benefits that NHIF was unable to offer, they must register with SHIF as their parents’ dependents.

“Registration of all Kenyans to the Social Health Insurance Fund commenced on July 1, 2024, as a key enabler towards the realization of our Universal Health Coverage.

All School children are therefore required to register as dependents of their parents before school opening dates for the 3rd term 2024.”

How To Register Students To Social Health Insurance Fund

Students can be registered to the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) through three ways;

  • Through the code- Parents can dial *147# to register their parents through their phones and follow the prompts provided by the USSD code.
  • You can also go to www.sha.go.ke where you will follow the guide on your computer to register your child before third term begins.
  • Additionally, if the two method fail, you can also log into www. afyangua.go.ke with a stable internet and ensure your students details are well captured.

Kipsang also urged parents to contact the Social Health Authority call centre via 0800720601 or info@sha.go.ke if they encounter any challenges during registration and capturing of their learners’ details.

In light of the ongoing government efforts to resolve the teachers’ strike, parents are being asked to take advantage of this time to register their children in the new SHIF, as advised by the Ministry of Education.
