TSC Payrise Distribution for 13B Teachers. The government has allocated KSh13 billion to fully implement the second portion of the teachers’ pay agreement.
According to calculations, instructors will see pay increases as a result of this alteration, with the lowest-paid earning KSh2,570 and the highest-paid earning KSh 393.
The lowest-paid teachers will now earn between KSh23,830 and KSh29,787 annually as a result. Educators with the highest salary range from KSh131,389 to KSh162,539 annually.
In addition to pay raises, teachers will also receive four types of allowances: housing, hardship, leave, and commuting.
Depending on the particular kind, these allowances might range from a minimum of KSh3,850 to a maximum of KSh50,000.
In particular, the ranges for commuter allowances and housing allowances, leave allowances and hardship allowances are KSh4,000–16,000, KSh3,850–KSh50,000, and KSh6,600–KSh38,100, respectively.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, CEO of the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), said that the wage changes will appear on teachers’ August paystubs, with the start of the implementation period being July 1, 2024, for arrears.
Because of the backdated amounts, teachers will be paid more at the end of the month.
Pay Rise For 13B Teachers: TSC Distribution
This wage increase comes after teachers obtained a comparable hike under the first phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 2021–2025 last year.
The TSC affirmed on Wednesday that it had obtained the money required to carry out this pay increase’s second phase in its entirety.
Following his talks with union leaders, Dr. Macharia indicated satisfaction with the government’s allocation of funding to implement the salary increase beginning July 1, 2024.
Around 370,000 teachers nationwide will profit from this decision when the CBA’s second phase begins in August.
The minimum salary increase for teachers in pay Grade B5, the lowest rank, will be KSh1,037, bringing their earnings from KSh22,793 to KSh23,830. Teachers in this work group at the highest grade will make KSh29,787.
The agreement that the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) signed in August of last year is finally being implemented with this pay hike.
Dr. Macharia gave an assurance on Wednesday that the required monies have been set aside for this purpose, and the unions verified the complete budgetary allocation for the CBA.
Despite the assurance of full compliance with the CBA deal, KNUT and KUPPET indicated that they will continue with their planned strike.
They mentioned unresolved problems like 130,000 instructors being promoted and 46,000 intern teachers being confirmed.
Dr. Macharia asked teachers to return to work on Monday for the commencement of the Third Term, stressing that the government has released the necessary money for the wage increase.
The unions also drew attention to other unresolved issues, like the need to review the Career Progression Guidelines, resolve issues with the teachers’ medical plan so that members have access to both public and private hospitals, and repay third-party deductions.
