KNUT Cancels Nationwide Anticipated Teachers’ Strike.

Following an inside meeting with the national governing council, Collins Oyuu, the secretary-general of KNUT, declared that the union has decided to postpone the strike in order to give the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) more time to handle their pressing requests.

Following protracted discussions about matters pertaining to teachers’ welfare, KNUT and the TSC came to this decision.

KNUT shows its dedication to communication and reaching a peaceful conclusion by calling off the strike.

All KNUT members are being pushed by Oyuu to report to their respective schools on Monday, indicating that things will be returning to normal in the educational system.

Viewed as a start in the right direction toward constructive engagement with the TSC, the union made its choice.

Nonetheless, KNUT has stated unequivocally that they reserve the right to change their minds if their demands are not satisfied in the allotted time. Both parties are working for a long-term solution, so the situation is still fluid.

However, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has declared that the teachers’ strike, which is scheduled to start tomorrow, will go on as scheduled.

The industrial action was approved during the union’s National Governing Council meeting, where 66 members cast votes in support of the strike.

KUPPET said they had gathered to discuss the status of the countrywide teachers’ strike in a press release that was made available on Sunday. Since the government did not resolve the issues of the members prior to the Strike Notice expiring, the strike will proceed as planned.

The nationwide teachers’ strike that is set to begin on Monday, August 26, 2024, was reviewed by the KUPPET National Governing Council during their meeting today.

In part, the statement states, “The meeting voted to press ahead with the strike starting on Monday, August 26th, given the lack of an urgent settlement of the members’ grievances by the expiration of our Strike Notice.

Until their complaints are resolved, the teachers’ organization has made it clear that it will organize its members to vehemently defend their rights.

KUPPET claims that the walkout is a means of addressing the long-standing grievances of disgruntled educators who feel underappreciated, overworked, and uninspired.

The union is lobbying for increased funding for schools as well as better facilities and higher pay for instructors.
