KNUT SG threatens “hell will break loose” if TSC doesn’t confirm intern teachers by Jan 2025.

Collins Oyuu, the secretary general of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to carry out the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that was provided to them in a recent memo.
According to Oyuu, TSC has until January 2025 to verify that the 46,000 interns have permanent and pensionable periods.

Speaking on Saturday in Likuyani, Oyuu confirmed that the system has not altered and that grade nine is still taught in primary schools.

One of the issues we had in common was labor. According to Oyuu, “the second phase of the CBA’s implementation had two benefits.”

The Secretary General went on to say that talks about a new CBA will be possible once the 2021 CBA is put into effect.

He said, “We want to make sure that this time it won’t be a’maternity’ CBA. We have presented a memorandum to TSC.”

Oyuu further instructed the government to give TSC the remaining Ksh. 1 billion intended for increases in teacher salaries.

By January of the following year, the 46,000 interns have to be verified as permanent employees eligible for pensions. Hell might break free otherwise.
