Kuppet officials storm staffroom, eat teachers’ food.

After invading a Machakos school on Thursday, representatives of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education instructors, Machakos chapter, ate the meals served to the instructors.

When they discovered the staffroom at Matungulu Girls’ High School had been abandoned, a few of the members rushed to get food.

They had a suspicion that when they were conducting their presentations, a few of their other educators were at work.

The Star was able to view a video recording of the instructors invading the school’s staff area while other people are eating and collecting plates.

Members of Kuppet have intensified their demonstrations against the government’s request that parents pick up their kids from school.

The teachers staged their protests on Thursday in the streets of Kathiani, Kangundo, and Matungulu subcounties, escorted by their officials, Secretary General Musembi Katuku, Chairman Bernard Warui, and Vice Chairperson Yvonne Musyoka.

Claiming they were hazardous, the officials ordered parents to pick up their kids from school within the county.

Parents were made aware of the purpose of the demonstrations and the necessity for them to pick up their kids from the several public secondary schools in the area.

We implore the parents whose kids are in school to understand that they are not secure. During the demonstrations at Kangundo town, Katuku declared, “We are here to tell you that all secondary schools and college teachers aren’t going to school.”

“Take your school-age children home until we reach a settlement with the government.” We have brought up many issues with the state, but it hasn’t addressed them all,” Katuku continued.

According to Katuku, the protests began on Thursday at Kathiani Market and progressed to Kakuyuni Town and then Kangundo Town.

“We want your cooperation as parents and teachers work together; Kuppet has called for a nationwide walkout. Yes, the strike is still going on. Katuku remarked, “Listen to Kuppet, not other people.”

Less than two days had passed since the officials invaded two other public schools in the Machakos Town subcounty before the Friday event.

Among them is Machakos Girls High School, where the principal was contacted.

They insisted that before ending the strike, the TSC had to certify that the 46,000 junior secondary school teachers were its permanent and pensionable workers.

“There are no teachers for your students enrolled in JSS. To ensure that your kids receive a top-notch education, TSC should verify the qualifications of 46,000 JSS teachers. If the government doesn’t comply with this demand, we won’t be able to return to work, Katuku stated.

The government was supposed to implement the second part of a Collective Bargaining Agreement with its members, but Katuku pointed out that they had not done so.

He said that after deducting money from instructors’ pay stubs, their employer, TSC, had neglected to send the third-party deductions to the appropriate organizations.

“We’re going to court with the government. We will not stop the strike until TSC sends in the third-party deductions. The strike will go on, according to Katuku.

According to Katuku, certain schools are operating without principals or their deputies because the government has declined to provide funding for teacher promotions.

He claimed that although teachers had completed interviews, they had not yet received promotions since there was not enough money for them.

“We are demonstrating for a few reasons,” Katuku stated.
