KUPPET SG Misori scolds members who say he betrayed them.

Akelo Misori, Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), said that the union, not he, decided to end the teachers’ strike on Monday.
Some members of the KUPPET board have accused Misori of betrayal, but Misori said that the members are being hypocritical.

He said that the strike was called off after the teaching union agreed to meet their demands and the executive council talked to many members about it.

According to Misori, Akelo talks for the executive board, so the job we did was not his job.

The KUPPET Secretary General said that at their most recent meeting, the NGC members who are also county executives gave the executive board the power to deal with the Teachers Service Commission and sign a back-to-work plan.

Misori said he doesn’t understand why some KUPPET members who are on the executive board and have the power to deal with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are now criticizing the board for ending the strike.

He said that the union leaders were able to come to an understanding with the TSC about a number of the things that caused the teachers to go on strike.

Misori told the teachers not to give up, saying that they would keep going after their requests until they were all met.
