New directives reveal the dates for the KCSE and KPSEA.

Following a two-week teacher strike that caused an initial disruption, the government officially announced the national test calendar on Wednesday, September 4. Students are currently starting their third term of study.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced the revised national examination dates in a directive to Directors of Education.

The TSC also included a number of strict guidelines that will be adhered to during the examination process, including with regard to the test administrators.
The tests will take place at all of the nation’s testing facilities from October 18, 2024, to November 22, 2024, as verified by Nancy Macharia, Chief Executive Officer of the TSC.

Rehearsals for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are scheduled to start on October 18. On October 22, the students will formally start writing their exams, which will last for a month.

Rehearsals for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will commence on October 25. Students are scheduled to take the examinations from October 28 to November 29, 2024.

According to the TSC directive, the KPSEA examinations will take place at the same time as the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA).
Exam supervisors will now be switched every two weeks, as per a new precedent set by the TSC, to help the government identify cases of applicants who are cheating while they are writing their papers, among other steps.

“Center managers will have to confirm the workstation and details of supervisors and invigilators who are posted in their centers. Every day, they would have to take attendance, Macharia wrote in the directive.

Along with the screening of supervisors, administrators, invigilators, and center managers with the highest integrity to oversee the process, the commission also instructed the Sub County Directors to begin the selection process.

“This is to request you to identify, vet and nominate the center managers, supervisors, and invigilators to be engaged in the administration of these examinations and assessments, deploy them into the CP2 system by 11th October 2024,” the directive said in part.
The invigilators and supervisors will not be placed in the same centers where they had worked during the previous two years. The commission stated that it will stop cheating on this.
