Top leaders in these institutions are Head Teachers (SNE schools) who hold a significant position,which involves overseeing the management and development of specialized programs meant to achieve unique requirements of students with special needs.
According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) , the importance of these school heads has been established within a specific pay scale,which is T-Scale 12.
T Scale 12 is the salary bracket scale that appropriately compensate Head Teachers in SNE institutions.
Under the current T-Scale 12 salary structure for Head Teachers in Special Needs schools, monthly basic salary is determined based on salary points.
The salary increments per point reflects the increased experience and tenure.

Apart from the basic salary for the head teacher of SNE schools under T-Scale 12, they are also entitled to various allowances,which include the D2 allowance grade.
The allowances the special type of teachers are designed to supplement the basic salary inorder to provide additional financial support to them.
This is because they serve in specialized roles within the education sector.
These teachers as a result get house allowance determined by their grade and the location of their school.
According to TSC scale, monthly house allowance for Head Teachers in SNE schools under Grade D2 is specified in different clusters which is determined locality of their school.
Teachers in In Cluster 1, covering Nairobi City, receive house allowance set at 45,000 KES.
Teachers in Cluster 2, covering Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and other cities get this allowance at 28,000 KES.
Teachers at Cluster 3, covering the municipalities like Nyeri, Eldoret, and Thika and many mapped areas get a house allowance of 21,000 KES.
Those in Cluster 4,that covers all other areas, are paid a house allowance of 18,066 KES.
