Teachers at KUPPET Baringo promise to start protesting in the streets.
In order to get their demands met, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Baringo branch has committed to participate in nationwide public protests alongside their counterparts.
The teachers, led by their representatives, declared that they will not give up until all of their demands have been met by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Zacharia Nyomboi, the branch executive secretary, and Chairman David Kibet, who led educators in Kabarnet town and subsequently attacked the education offices in the region, declared that they will not submit to pressure until the issues are addressed.
According to Nyomboi, Education News, teachers would not let up until they get their demands, which include the revision of the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) and the elimination of medical insurance. “We want to make it clear to the government and TSC that teachers should still get paid for August even though they are on strike,” he stated.
He argued that TSC should respect its independence and that it was failing in its duty to uplift the spirits of educators by supporting teachers’ rights.
According to Chairman Kibet, teachers were a helpless bunch because they had been stuck in one job category for a long time and couldn’t support their families.
