The applications must be filed by midnight on November 18, 2024, at the latest, and are to be submitted through the TSC site, www.teachersonline.go.ke.
Successful applicants will be listed where positions become available, Macharia said, warning that manual applications will not be considered.
One month after the commission requested applications for 46,000 teaching vacancies that were available to eligible applicants, the advertisement was made public.
Primary schools (6,000), junior secondary schools (39,550), and secondary schools (450) were the three groups into which TSC separated the jobs.
To fill the permanent and pensionable roles for the intern teachers beginning in January 2025, the commission was given Sh13.4 billion by the Treasury.
TSC required applicants for positions in junior or senior secondary schools to have an education diploma, while candidates seeking positions in primary schools had to have at least a P1 certificate.
TSC received 314,117 applications in response to the ad between October 1 and October 8, 2024.
Macharia told the Parliamentary Education Committee that 93,646 applications were submitted for primary teaching posts out of the 6,000 advertised, and 144,177 applications were submitted for JSS teachers, out of 39,550 advertised opportunities.
She added that the Commission had received 76,294 applications for the 450 teaching jobs in secondary schools that it had advertised.
Macharia told MPs that for the fiscal year 2024–2025, Sh1 billion had been allocated for teacher advancement.
