TSC Salary Allocation by Job Group Following CBA Pay Increase.

TSC Salary Distribution by Job Group Following Pay Increase. In addition to paying teachers in August, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will increase arrears to July 1, 2024.

To help with the payment of teachers’ salaries, TSC has already submitted payroll to banks and saccos.

In order to comply with the requirements of the Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) that the government signed with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), President William Ruto announced yesterday that the Commission will pay teachers sh13 billion.

“All of your fees will be covered by the end of this month, allowing you to continue teaching our kids,” he declared on Wednesday in Kuja, Migori County’s Nyatike Constituency.

The two teacher unions issued strike notices as a result of delays in the CBA’s implementation.

Ruto referred to Knut’s decision to halt their strike in order to give the government more time to enact the CBA as “patriotic.”

Simultaneously, he asked contract junior secondary school teachers to exercise patience while the government carries out their changeover from internship to permanent employment.

He stated, “Measures are being taken by the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education to guarantee the confirmation of all JSS teachers.”

Teachers would receive pay increases under the CBA agreement of up to Sh2, 570 for the lowest paid (B5) and up to Sh393 for the highest paid (D5).

Accordingly, the minimum and maximum pay for the lowest paid teachers will be Sh23, 830 and Sh29, 787, respectively.

The new pay scales for the top paid teachers will start at Sh131,389 and go up to Sh162,539 at the highest point.

Four additional allowances will be provided to teachers: commuting, housing, leave, and hardship.

The highest amount of Sh50,000 that can be awarded is Sh3,850. The commuting allowance would specifically be between Sh4,000 to Sh16,000.

The housing allowance recipients would earn payments of Sh3,850 and Sh50,000. The amount allotted for leave is between Sh4,000 and Sh10,000.

The amount provided to teachers who qualify for hardship allowances ranges from Sh6,600 to Sh38,100.

According to Macharia, teachers’ August paystubs will show the compensation modifications, with any arrears being retroactively applied to July 1, 2024, the date of implementation.

This implies that when the backdated amounts are delivered at the end of this month, instructors will receive an increase in pay.

The surge follows a corresponding raise for teachers granted in the first year of the 2021–2025 CBA last year.

TSC CEO Dr. Macharia verified that they had been given the funds to carry out the CBA following a meeting with teachers unions last week.

Following his meeting with unions, Dr. Macharia stated, “After today’s discussions, the Commission is pleased to announce that the Government has provided funds for the implementation of the 2d phase of the CBA with effect from July 1, 2024.”

370,000 Instructors Will See Pay Increases
This suggests that as part of the CBA’s second phase, more than 370,000 teachers nationwide will receive wage increases beginning in August.

The minimal wage rise for teachers in pay grade B5, who are the lowest ranking, would be Sh1,037. Their salary will increase from Sh22,793 to Sh 23,830 as a result.

Nonetheless, the highest paid scale workers in this employment sector would be compensated with Sh29,787.
