TSC sends a strong warning to school administrators about adhering to safety rules.

School leaders have been warned by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) not to ignore safety regulations in their establishments.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated in a September 13, 2024, circular that certain school administrators have not followed the guidelines in the Safety Standards Manual for Schools, a crucial guideline that guarantees kids’ safety.

This is in line with both the Code of Conduct and Ethics and the Code of Regulations for Teachers. Macharia also brought up the subject of some school administrators’ laxity in enforcing adherence to administrative circulars issued by the government.

She gave school heads stern instructions to follow the handbook and circulars and to increase student monitoring in order to quickly identify and resolve instances of disruption or indiscipline.

According to the Code of Conduct and Ethics and the Code of Regulations for Teachers, “the Commission will take strict disciplinary action against anyone found violating the Manual’s guidelines,” Macharia said.

Additionally, she asked school administrators to work with law authorities to investigate cases of arson and indiscipline and to suggest that those found guilty face both administrative and legal consequences.

In order to maintain safety standards in schools, school administrators must also collaborate with Ministry of Education officers and National Government Administration officers.

Macharia stressed that in order to guarantee student safety, “you must remain vigilant and present at all times together with Deputy Heads and Senior Masters overseeing boarding programs.”

The TSC has issued this warning in the wake of a dormitory fire at Endarasha Hillside Academy that claimed the lives of twenty-one male students. The investigation into the fire’s cause is still ongoing.
