TSC to start sending teachers on strike show cause letters; reporting deadline set.

The teachers’ strike appears to be unabated despite multiple meetings and a court order to end it; thus, show cause letters are about to be sent.

As of late, it has come to light that TSC, the instructors’ employer, will begin sending show-cause letters to teachers who intentionally violate a court order.

This occurs just a day after Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) and its members were prevented from withdrawing their labor by a temporary injunction granted by Justice James Rika.

As she read the verdict, Rika stated that the petitioner had been granted a temporary injunction that restrained the respondent, its officials, members, employees, agents, and other persons operating to remove labor or commencement, pending a hearing and determination of the application inter parties.

The anticipated industrial action was scheduled to begin on August 24, 2024, or at any other time thereafter. The court prevented any party from initiating, participating in, or continuing to participate in the intended industrial action.

KUPPET’s strike was centered on the predicament facing junior secondary school (JSS) teachers.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Labor and Kuppet called a meeting, but the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) did not show up.

The purpose of the Monday meeting between Kuppet authorities and Labour Chief Secretary Alfred Mutua was to create a plan to terminate the strike.

As of right now, the strike has prevented most public secondary schools from holding classes for two days.

Because there were no fresh developments to report and the union appeared unwilling to call off the strike, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) did not show up for the meeting.

Despite TSC’s expectation that the teachers’ August salary would be in their accounts by Friday of last week, the instructors have still not received it.
