TSC Will Be Paying New Salaries To Intern Teachers.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will begin paying new salaries to intern teachers after providing funding to confirm their permanent appointments.
Julius Ogamba, Cabinet Secretary for Education, claims that Ksh 18.7 billion has already been made available to validate 46,000 intern instructors. In order to carry out the phase 2 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for teachers, he said that 13.5 billion shillings have been released.
With pleasure, I declare that Ksh 18.7 billion has been released for the purpose of hiring intern teachers and Ksh 13.5 billion to execute the CBA regarding wage increments.
We are dedicated to raising educational standards and making sure instructors receive fair compensation, stated Ogamba.
The contracts of intern teachers hired in September 2023 have been extended by TSC by four months, to run from September 1st to December 31st, 2024.
The contracts should be extended to intern instructors who are willing, per the directive of TSC CEO Nancy Macharia. Additionally, Macharia requested that interns complete forms prior to the present employment agreement’s expiration on August 31.
In order to preserve school continuity and get ready for a bigger hiring drive that is planned for October of this year, the decision was made to extend the contracts of intern instructors.
The purpose of extending the internship program, according to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, is to enable the present group of intern teachers to finish their education at the end of the current academic year, facilitating a smooth transfer into the next one.
This year, TSC also intends to hire 20,000 intern instructors in October. Of them, 2,000 will be used for primary education and 18,000 for junior secondary education.
A total of 46,000 instructors working as interns are employed by TSC. In February 2023, 21,550 junior school and 4,000 primary school intern instructors were hired.
In April 2023, 450 intern instructors for secondary schools were hired. In September 2023, 18,000 junior schools and 2,000 primary schools hired intern teachers.
