TSC Will Employ The Following Teachers in October; Qualifications And Salary.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to hire 20,000 teachers for internships starting in October of this year. 18,000 junior secondary school and 2,000 primary school intern teachers will be employed by the commission.

Dr. Belio Kipsang, the education Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education, reports that in order to ensure the success of the Competency-Based Assessment (CBC), 56,000 instructors have been hired to far, with plans to hire an additional 20,000 to bolster the program.

According to the PS, 18,000 classrooms will be constructed by the government in January of next year to house students in Grade 9. He continued by saying that although 7,000 classes are being developed through CDF, 11,000 classes are being developed with assistance from development partners.

The government, Hw continued, is totally dedicated to CBC’s success and is collaborating with all partners to set up the required infrastructure. Every arrangement was made to guarantee a seamless shift from Grade 9 to Grade 10 in 2026.

TSC will also confirm to permanent and pensionable terms a total of 46,000 teachers currently working on internship terms. The Commission has been allocated sh 18.7 billion for the exercise. The conversion will happen in January 2025.

The teachers will be issued with internship certificates at the end of their contract. The certificates will award them more marks during recruitment interviews

Early this, month, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that Intern teachers wil start receiving new salaries from the commission  after receiving money for confirming them to permanent terms

According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the extension of intern teachers is to allow the current cohort of intern teachers to remain in school until the end of the year, providing a seamless transition into the new academic year.

Interns attached to primary schools will earn a monthly stipend of sh 15,000 while those in junior school will get sh 20,000.

According to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, Ksh 18.7 billion had already been released to confirm 46,000 intern teachers. He added that 13.5 billion shillings have been released to implement the teacher’s phase 2 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

During verification/ interviews, applicants shall be required to produce the following:

  1. A copy of the Teacher Registration Certificate/print-out from the TSC online portal as evidence of registration as a teacher
  2. A copy of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable)
  3. A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport;
  4. Two (2) color passport-size photographs
  5. A copy of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card
  6. A copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN)
